Electronic Resources of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library

Alerts

Alerts can be set up to notify users when documents are issued on a particular subject. To set up alerts, some resources require authentication before alert creation, while others need a private account creation prior to authentication.

Upon receiving an email with alerts, in most cases:

  • When accessing from the UN building: the system will automatically recognize the IP and grant full-text article access (EIU, Africa confidential, Foreign Policy) or it will ask you to log in to your account.
  • When accessing from outside the UN building: Login in is required before accessing the content of the alert.

To receive newsletters or to create alerts for the electronic resources that require a special ID from the Library (Africa Report, Jeune Afrique, etc.), you need to create a personal account.

Africa Confidential

Africa Confidential does not include in our license a feature for user to set up their own account and customize alerts. To create an alert, UN Staff can, instead, sign up for a free account and set up Free Alerts, and then login separately from our A-to-Z page to access the full text of the articles received by email.

Once you have this free personal account, you can login and modify it further. Just remember that the free personal account is not linked to our UN institutional account, so you will need to login separately from our A-to-Z page to access the full text of the articles periodically.

Africa Intelligence

To create an alert, the Africa Intelligence alert feature requires a free personal account that is not connected to the UN account in order to receive and customize alerts. UN Staff can sign up for a free account and set up alerts, and once you receive the alerts, login separately from our A-to-Z page to access the full text of the articles received by email.
