UN General Assembly Membership

According to UN Charter, Article 9, "The General Assembly shall consist of all the Members of the United Nations."

The General Assembly currently has 193 members. All current member states participate in plenary sessions of the General Assembly, as well as in the six Main Committees that report to the plenary on their allocated agenda items.

For information about the membership during each year, a list of the Member States was included in each UN Yearbook. The Permanent Missions Blue Books contain information about the representatives of states over time. See the Current UN Member States page in this guide for information about when each state joined the UN and more.
