Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is one part of the "International Bill of Human Rights", adopted by General Assembly resolution 217 (III) of 10 December 1948. The proposal in resolution 217 grew to include two covenants. Now, the International Bill of Human Rights consists of:

  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) 
  • International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and its Optional Protocols
